WHELP! It’s that time, again. Summer, for all practical purposes, is over. That little factoid hit me today, like a ton of bricks. Thank God it did, because I’m still lazing around, planning barbecue’s, like I’ve got six weeks of summer left! So, I resolved to buy the last of our school supplies, now. Tomorrow, I will go through our textbooks and decide which ones I can use and what I need to buy. I’ll also decide exactly how I’m going to teach each subject, this year.
Since I began veering away from teaching, solely, with traditional textbooks, I find that my learning style changes a bit each year as I tailor it to fit each of my childrens’ needs. For instance: This year, for the first time, I will combine Spelling, Language, and Reading, by studying the grammar of the books we read (library books), and choosing this year’s spelling lists from our readers. We still use a textbook for math because I think the curriculum we use is excellent so, we’ll continue with that.
I bought a lot less this year because I only have two students. It’s been 17 years since I only had two students. I’m looking forward to it. At the beginning of every school year, I decorate the walls with fall leaves. I think I’ll do that while they’re asleep the night before our 1st day of school and surprise them. Not sure, yet, what day we’ll actually start; so many things happening that first week of September (Looking at the calendar). Yeah…we’ll start the 12th.
I’m going to blog about it and post lots of pictures, so stay tuned 😉
P.S. How did you spend the summer of 2016? Leave a comment below!
